Management Development Programmes

 

The Centre on Management Development Programmes of the College cater to the need for in-service training of the executives, officers, working in various business organizations, Government organizations, academicians and farmers. Besides conducting need based training programmes, the centre also conducts seminars, workshops and conferences. The themes of these activities are mainly confined to agribusiness. The College has been organizing many events related to agribusiness themes the details of which have been given as under:

Strategic Management in Agribusiness

MDP on Strategic Management in Agribusiness was organized from December 20 - 31, 1999 in which 35 trainees participated. Main focus of this MDP was on corporate Strategy, Planning, and Management, Strategy Structure (Technology, Leadership, Values & Business Ethics, and Social Responsibility), Strategy Implementation and Evaluation, TQM, HRM, CRM etc.

Hi-tech Agriculture for PGF Executives

MDP on Hi-tech Agriculture for PGF Executives was organized from June 5-14, 2000, in which nine executives participated. Main focus in this MDP was diversified agriculture viz. floriculture, nursery management, vegetable management, seed production, fruit production management, post harvest processing, IPM, INM, livestock management & watershed management, etc.

Hi-tech Agriculture for PACL Executives

MDP on Hi-tech Agriculture for PACL Executives was organized from July 3-12, 2000 in which 11 executives from PACL participated. Main focus of MDP was on Diversified Agricultural System Management, IPNM, IPM, and Watershed Management, and the Use of Computer in Agriculture.

MDPs on Computer Education

  • First MDP of 22 days duration was conducted to impart Computer Education to the university staff (Teachers, Scientists, Officers and Extension workers). The course was organized from December 9-30, 2000 in which 24 persons participated.
  • Second MDP on computer education was conducted from May 22 - June 13, 2001 in which 19 faculty members participated. Areas covered were the same as in the first MDP on computer education. During 22 days programme, emphasis was given on practical aspects which included exposure to the World of computers, MS-DOS, WINDOWS, Excel, Power Point, MS-WORD, SPSS and use of E-mail & Internet.
  • Third course in Computer Learning was conducted for 26 university scientists from August 14 – September 6, 2002. During the 22 days of the course, the participants learned MS-DOS, WINDOWS, Excel, Power Point, MS-WORD, SPSS and use of E-mail & Internet.

MDPs on Agripreneurship Development

CABM has been identified as one of the nodal centre for training unemployed agripreneurs under Agriclinic & Agribusiness Scheme, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The numerous success stories running across the state prove testimony to the efforts of the centre to train agripreneurs.

  • A two months ADP (Agripreneurship Development Programme) was conducted for agriculture and allied graduates under Agri-Clinic and Agri-Business Centers Scheme from April 24 – June 25, 2002. The agripreneurs were oriented in the vital areas of Agribusiness Management, Small Business Management, General Marketing Management and Agri-Marketing Management. Twenty two agripreneurs participated in the programme where they were also given practical oriented training covering wide areas like dairy management, nursery management, mushroom production, bee keeping, and fishery farm management, animal health management and food technology. The trainees during their two months stay at CABM enjoyed learning the use of computer for business management. The field visits were organized to facilitate on the spot interaction with successful entrepreneurs. Special interactive sessions were organized with Bankers for project development and evaluation.
  • Second ADP was conducted from October 30 – December 30, 2002. Thirty participants from Uttaranchal participated in the training Programme. The exposure in class room and field was as described in the case of first ADP.
  • Third ADP was conducted from September 26 – November 25, 2003. Thirty participants from Uttaranchal attended the training course and were exposed to various area of technology and resource management, in addition to computer learning.
  • Fourth ADP was conducted from March 24 – July 23, 2004. Thirty two participants from Uttaranchal attended the training course and were exposed to various area of technology and resource management, in addition to computer learning.
  • Fifth ADP was conducted from May 4 - July 3, 2005.Around 30 candidates were trained on various aspects of running agribusiness. Besides the specified module, the emphasis was given on development of various agribusiness projects. The main feature of the training programme was that all the candidates were sanctioned loan letters by Punjab National Bank on the last day of the ADP itself.

MDP on Workers-Management Relations

One day workshop on Workers Participation in University Management was conducted on May 1, 2003. About 500 university teachers, students, workers and other staff members participated. Three lead papers were presented by eminent resource persons.

Agribusiness Meets

The CABM was entrusted to train block level officials of 13 districts of Uttaranchal as per the direction of Uttaranchal Govt. for ‘Event Management’, so that they can organize agribusiness meets in their respective districts

 

  • The first MDP for block level officials was conducted in Dehradun on July 8-9,2003 in which 24 BDOs participated. The block level officers of Govt. of Uttaranchal and MBA Students of CABM, designated as Event Managers are being given exposure in event management.
  • The Second one day MDP was organized at. CABM, Pantnagar on 13 January 2004 in which 30 delegates participated including block level officials and students. Dr. V.P.S. Arora, Dean CABM, Dr. P. C. Pandey, Mr. Mukesh Pandey, Dr. D. Kumar, Dr. Anil Kumar and Dr. Raka Saxena delivered lectures on concept of Agribusiness, Managing Events Successfully, Team Building for Successful Event Management and Event Management – a Case Study respectively.

 

  • The first Agribusiness Meet in Uttaranchal was organized at Kalsi (Dehradun).

 

  • Agro-fair was organized in Ram Nagar block of Roorkee. Neha Saxena and Veena (PGP I students) were the Event Managers. This activity was conducted at block level and the objective was to make farmers aware of new brands and technologies coming for crop raising and managing live stock.

 

  • Another Agribusiness Fair was organized at Gairsen block of Chamoli District. Rajeev Upadhyaya and Navjot Singh Sahota were Event managers. Mr. Surendra Singh Negi, Minister for Rural Development, Uttaranchal Govt.  was the Chief Guest of the event

 

  • A one day agribusiness meet called. Krishi Udyan Vyapar Mela at Kashipur Vikas Khand’s premises on 18th of Oct. 2003, with the objectives of creating awareness of organic farming, new technology transfer, Interaction of farmers with scientists and to give the platform to those farmers Sardar Harbhajan Singh Cheema, MLA was Chief Guest.

 

Agribusiness Opportunities in Uttaranchal

A two-day seminar on Agribusiness Opportunities in Uttaranchal was organized at CABM on November 29-30, 2003. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. P.L. Gautam Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary Industrial Development, In all, four technical sessions viz. Agribusiness and institutional reforms; domestic and global opportunities for value added and high value agri-products in Uttaranchal; potential of fertilizer, bio-fertilizer, pesticides, bio-pesticides and farm machinery; and opportunities for biotech and seed industry in Uttaranchal were conducted.

AGRICON 2004

G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Govt. of Uttaranchal, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Diversified Agricultural Support Project (DASP) jointly organized AGRICON 2004 on January 23-24, 2004 with CABM as knowledge partner to promote and develop agriculture, agro-based, food processing and other related industries in Uttaranchal. The focus of the conference was on providing greater resources, technology, manpower and R&D for all stake holders in agri and related businesses, resulting in the generation of new business, employment and overall development in Uttaranchal.

MDP for Capacity Building of Milk Cooperative Employees

The training was conducted on February 18-19, 2004 with the objective to equip the field staff with the conceptual knowledge about increasing the milk yield in their farm animals. About 30 participants belonging to various milk co-operatives from Khatima, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Bazpur, Bindukhatta attended this two day session. Lectures from various streams like human resource management, IT, Animal Husbandry, feed and Fodder Management and dairy sciences were delivered by CABM faculty and resource persons from outside.

MDP on Agribusiness and Micro-Enterprises

A five days MDP w­as organized at CABM February, 24–28, 2004. Fifteen participants of Uttaranchal DASP participated in this training programme. The objective of this training programme was to inculcate capacity building and managerial skills among the participants.

MDP for Capacity Development of Milk Cooperative Employees

One day MDP on March 20, 2004 was organized with the objective of personality development of the officers. CABM faculty Dr. B.S. Bisht, Dr. Devendra Kumar, Ms. Sapna A. Narula and Mr. Saurabh Singh delivered lectures on leadership skills, personality development and positive attitude. The participants were also given self-evaluation exercises. The participants expressed satisfactions after the programme regarding the quantity and quality of the programme.

Management Development Programme for Field Officers of SCAs-
U.P. and Uttaranchal

A Management Development Programme for field officers of State Channelising Agencies (SCAs) of Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal was conducted from May 27-29, 2004. The programme was sponsored by the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation, New Delhi, which is a Govt. of India undertaking under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

MDP for Secretaries of U.S. Nagar Cooperatives

A one day MDP was organized for the Secretaries of U.S. Nagar Cooperatives on November 9, 2004 which was attended by 35 persons.

ICAR sponsored Summer School on ‘Planning and Management of Agribusiness in India’

A Summer School on Planning and Management of Agribusiness in India was organized at CABM from  June 21-July 11, 2004. Indian Council of Agricultural Research sponsored this 21-days summer school with an outlay of Rs 1.75 lakhs. 23 participants attended the school from various agricultural universities and research institutes. 

ICAR Sponsored Summer School on Rural Finance 

Realising the increasing importance of the rural financial framework in the country, the college organized ICAR sponsored Summer School on Rural Finance on June 8 - 28, 2005. 18 Scientists attended the school from SAUs and ICAR institutions of the country.

Farmers’ Awareness Programmes

The main objectives of the scheme include creation of scientific storage capacity with allied facilities in rural areas to meet the requirements of farmers for storing farm produce, processed farm produce and agricultural inputs; promotion of grading, standardization and quality control of agricultural produce to improve their marketability; prevention of distress sale immediately after harvest by providing the facility of pledge financing and marketing credit; strengthen agricultural marketing infrastructure in the country by paving the way for the introduction of a national system of warehouse receipts in respect of agricultural commodities stored in such godowns and to reverse the declining trend of investment in agriculture sector by encouraging private and cooperative sectors to invest in the creation of storage infrastructure in the country.

 

College of Agribusiness Management was identified as nodal centre for conducting Farmers’ Awareness Programme under Rural Godown Scheme of Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. In all, eight programmes were conducted in Year 2004 - 05 under this scheme as per the details given below:

National Seminar on Rural Finance

 A National Seminar on Rural Finance was organized on December 17 - 18, 2004. The issues like agricultural finance, micro finance; SHGs, micro credit etc were deliberated. The seminar was attended by Bankers, agri economists, researchers and students.  

Seminar on Basmati Export Potential

A seminar on Basmati Export Potential on January 28, 2005 was jointly organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi and CABM, Pantnagar.

Seminar on Promotion of Agriclinic/ Agribusiness Scheme

 CABM in collaboration with State Bank of India, Zonal Office, Dehradun and NABARD organized a Seminar on Promotion of Agriclinic/Agribusiness Scheme on February 14, 2005. The Seminar was inaugurated by Mrs. Vibha Puri Das, Principal Secretary and Commissioner (Forest & Rural Development). Vice- Chancellor Dr. P L Gautam and Secretary Agriculture, Mr. Om Prakash shared their views with the participants while Dr V P S Arora presented details of the scheme being launched in the State by CABM with support from the Government of India and NABARD. 

Training on Computerization of Land Records

One day training programme on Computerization of Land Records for the administrative officers of Uttaranchal state was organized on Februray 15, 2005. The training was inaugurated by Dr. R.S. Tolia, Chief Secretary, Uttaranchal and was attended by commissioners and all the district magistrates and officers concerned in the state.

Seminar on Export Promotion

Seminar on Export Promotion was jointly organized by Department of Industries, Uttaranchal and CABM on February 16, 2005. Sri Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary (Industrial Development) was the Guest of Honour. The seminar was attended by officials of Industrial department, exporters, industrialists, academicians, farmers and students.

Workshop on APMC Act for Uttaranchal

 College of Agribusiness Management organized a one day Workshop on Draft APMC Act for Uttaranchal on February 17, 2005. The workshop was inaugurated by Sri Mahendra Singh Mahara, Minister of Agriculture, Uttaranchal. Dr. P L Gautam, Vice Chancellor of the University delivered the key-note paper. The state government officials, progressive farmers, agri economists, marketing experts and students attended the workshop. 

Debate on Union Budget 2005-06

The College organized a Debate on Union Budget 2005-06 on March 9, 2005 on the request of Progressive Farmers’ Association. The farmers’ representatives, academicians, financial experts and students participated in the deliberation.

National Seminar on Rural Marketing

 A National Seminar on Rural Marketing was organized on March 18-19, 2005 in which around 80 persons from academic institutions, corporate sector, students, and Government officers from all over India participated to share their views on Rural Marketing. Dr. V.P. S. Arora, Dean CABM presented Theme Paper on Rural Marketing. The two day seminar was divided into five technical sessions : Opportunities and Challenges in Rural Marketing, Rural Consumer Behaviour and Marketing Strategies for Rural Areas, Marketing of Agri-inputs and Financial Services in Rural Areas, Marketing of Farm Products and Contemporary Issues in Rural Marketing.

Other Programmmes

Training on WTO Agreement

One day training on WTO Agreement and its implications on agri-exports was organized by AEDU and CABM on March 28, 2005. The MDP was inaugurated by Dr. V.P.S. Arora, Faculty and students, Officers and Officials of AEDU, Exporters, Millers, Farmers and scientists. Sri Vijay Sardana, CITA and Dr. H.S. Chawla, Professor College of Agriculture were the resource persons.

Buyer-Seller Meet

A buyer-seller meet was organized on September 29, 2005 at Dehradun in which several national and international exporters participated. The occasion was graced by presence of the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, FRDC, Secretary Industrial Development and many other distinguished guests.
